Choose heavy fruit with smooth, thin skins. Grapefruit will not ripen after picking. Grapefruit can be kept at room temperature for 6 days, but keep several weeks if refrigerated.
Grapefruit is juicier if rolled between your pelm and the countertop a few seconds before eating. To remove pith easily drop whole grapefruit in boiling water. Remove from heat and let sit for 4 minutes. When you peel the the graepfruit, the pith should come off with the skin. For dessert, dot grapefruit halves with brown sugar and broil. For salads, add grapefruit sections for color and piquant flavor.
